Join Us for the First Annual CBSA Golf Tournament: Holes for Heroes in Calgary

Get ready for a day of fun, friendly competition, and supporting a great cause at the Holes for Heroes Golf Tournament in Calgary! This inaugural event will be a memorable experience for you and your friends or colleagues. End the day with a delicious burger straight from the grill, and enjoy tasty sides while contributing to a meaningful cause.

Event Details:

  • Check-in & Putting Contest: Starts at 12:00 hrs
  • Tee Times: Begin at 13:00 hrs
  • Tickets: $120 per player ($480 per team) – includes 18 holes of golf, a team golf cart, a burger party, and a charitable donation. (A portion of every ticket – $10 – will go directly to Legacy Place Society)
  • Prizes: Exciting prizes and a 50/50 draw!

How to Participate:

  • Team Registration: Get your team of four together and register by emailing HolesforHeroesGolf@gmail.com.
  • Registration Deadline: September 13, 2022
  • Individual Players: If you want to participate but don’t have a full team, let us know, and we’ll help connect you with others.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Not a golfer but still want to be involved? We’re looking for volunteers to help during the event.
  • Donations: We are also seeking donations or swag for the event. If you or someone you know is interested in contributing to this important cause, please reach out.

This Holes for Heroes golf tournament is not only a fun-filled day but also a chance to support mental health initiatives through Legacy Place Society. Let’s come together, make memories, and show our support for those who serve.

ASIST October 18 & 19, 2022 Calgary hosted by Legacy Place Society

 

 

Attending this 2 day course will train you to intervene with an individual who is thinking about suicide.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a 2 day interactive workshop in suicide first aid.  ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.  Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop – anyone 18 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.  This workshop is not recommended for people who have had a recent suicide loss. Presented by facilitators of:

Join the First Responder Suicide Awareness Conference in Calgary and Edmonton

Since 2017, Legacy Place Society has partnered with local Alberta first responder agencies and military personnel to host the annual Suicide Awareness Conference in Calgary and Edmonton. Over 4,000 attendees, including first responders, spouses, partners, and friends from the home front, have benefited from the event. Participants come from Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Services, 911 Dispatch, Veterans, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

Creating Conversations Around Mental Health and Suicide

The conference creates open discussions around suicide, mental health, and wellness. It offers hope, awareness, and practical insights, while providing attendees with resources and networking opportunities. It has become a vital event for reshaping how we talk about mental health challenges in emergency services.

Travis Howze: Motivational Speaker and Wellness Educator

This year, we are excited to welcome Travis Howze, an international speaker, author, and wellness educator. Travis brings 14 years of experience as a U.S. Marine, Police Officer, and Firefighter. His personal journey with Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) inspired him to create Post-Traumatic Purpose, an educational course and keynote presentation on Leadership, Mental Wellness, and Resiliency.

Post-Traumatic Purpose: Real Talk on Mental Health

In his keynote presentation, Travis gives a raw and uncensored look at the mental health challenges faced by first responders and their families. He shares personal experiences and emphasizes the importance of recognizing symptoms and finding ways to cope. He encourages families to attend, providing a holistic approach to understanding trauma and its effects on individuals and their teams.

Travis’ Impact Across the Country

Travis has spoken at numerous conferences, including those for SWAT teams, FBI, and firefighter associations. He is the author of the best-selling book, Create Your Own Light, and hosts a top-ranked podcast of the same name. His experiences and messages resonate deeply with those in emergency services and their families.

We are excited to share that the Families Matter Research Group (FMRG) is part of the development of The PSPNET Families Wellbeing Hub and one layer of the resource is ready for your evaluation. We are pleased to inform you that we are currently evaluating an evidence-based online treatment program for symptoms of low mood, depression, worry, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder, which we have designed specifically for spouses and significant others of public safety personnel.

This study is being led by Dr. Heather Hadjistavropoulos and the PSPNET Families Team at the University of Regina and with support from the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment .
