Sea to Sea for PTSD – Legacy Place Society supporting PTSD Initiative

Sea to Sea For PTSD is a registered not for profit based in Alberta. https://www.seatoseaforptsd.ca/

From April 3, 2022 and count forward about 30 weeks… you’ll see along the Trans Canada Hwy a team of first responders walking across Canada to raise awareness to PTSD and raise funds to support numerous mental health initiatives throughout Canada.

Legacy Place Society is a proud supporter of this initiative.  We want to stop the stigma around the subject of PTSD!  As we say… our setbacks are meant to build a sacred strength that we never would of had otherwise.  Too many of us apply false narratives to our pain and what is says about it.  We believe things like “we are broken, we are damaged, life was meant to work out for us…” But these thoughts are only a confused narrative.  It’s a common and “natural” belief but simply inaccurate.  There’s a simple way to live into d different belief system about our pain, trauma and setbacks.  We can finally understand the hidden programming that undermines our life.  If we can become aware of it, name it and see it for what it is, we can make a massive shift toward emotional health.

Legacy Place Society is a Registered Charity (CRA 891549420) and will issue tax receipts for all donations received. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/legacy-place-society/?mprompt=1

Pull Ups For Mental Health- Terry Fieguth

Cst. Terry Fieguth’s Incredible Pull-Up Challenge: Raising $20,000 for First Responder Mental Health

In an inspiring display of strength and commitment, Cst. Terry Fieguth of the Lethbridge Police Service completed a remarkable 4080 pull-ups as part of a mental health awareness campaign for first responders. This powerful initiative aimed to raise both awareness and funds to support practical mental health initiatives that promote the well-being of those who serve on the frontlines. Through his incredible effort, Terry raised $20,000—money that will go toward crucial mental health resources for first responders.

How the Funds Are Being Used:

Legacy Place Society is proud to be a part of this important cause, with two major initiatives funded by the proceeds from Terry’s pull-up challenge:

  1. The CALM App
Legacy Place has made a bulk purchase of one-year CALM app memberships to provide first responders with tools to reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance overall mental well-being. The CALM app offers a variety of resources, including sleep stories, mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques, and more, to help users manage anxiety and improve their emotional resilience. To access your complimentary CALM app subscription, email info@legacyplacesociety.com with your preferred email address (one that can bypass work firewalls). Please act quickly as the app subscriptions are limited and must be redeemed before April 19, 2023.
  2. Dr. Kevin Gilmartin’s Book: “Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement”
As part of this initiative, Legacy Place is also offering a free copy of Dr. Kevin Gilmartin’s groundbreaking book, Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement. This highly recommended resource is not only invaluable for law enforcement officers but also applicable to all first responders. It offers practical strategies for managing the emotional challenges of the job, helping to build resilience and emotional wellness. To receive your complimentary copy, email info@legacyplacesociety.com with your name and full mailing address.

A Big Thank You to Cst. Fieguth:

Terry’s commitment to mental health and his dedication to supporting his fellow first responders is truly remarkable. By completing over 4000 pull-ups, he has not only raised significant funds but also sparked an important conversation about mental health in the first responder community. We are proud to support this initiative and encourage everyone to take advantage of these valuable mental health resources.

Together, we can prevent suicide. The vast majority of people who attempt suicide and receive a caring intervention do not re-attempt. This class teaches you how to skillfully respond to people considering suicide.
Attending this two-day course will train you to intervene with an individual who is thinking about suicide.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 18 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.
Focusing upon the role of ASIST caregivers in a suicide-safer community, the goal of ASIST is to train caregivers who are willing, ready and able to provide life-assisting, suicide first aid. Studies show that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings and is a cost-effective way to help address the problem of suicide.
All participants who complete the course (14 hours of instruction time) will receive a certificate of participation.
ASIST is recognized by Canadian Accreditation Council Of Human Services (CACOHS) and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). Participants who have current ASIST certificate can obtain 14 hours of Category A professional development credits. If you do not belong to ASWB, please check with your professional association to see if you qualify for credits.

“This class confirmed to me that in both a professional and personal sense, we as first responders and just as people are woefully under equipped to deal with suicide and talking about death in general. The skills learned from ASIST will better equip the responder to have a productive intervention and give them the confidence to do so.  Thank you Legacy Place for providing this essential training to us”  …JD and S
