Doug’s Ride for Freedom – Break the Silence
Support Men’s Mental Wellness in Southern Alberta
Event Overview
Join us for Doug’s Ride for Freedom on July 22, 2017, an exciting motorcycle event in Southern Alberta. This event will raise awareness for men’s mental wellness and support Legacy Place Society. Our goal is to highlight the mental health challenges faced by men, especially first responders and military personnel.
Ride Details
The day begins with a scenic motorcycle ride through Southern Alberta’s stunning countryside. It’s not just a ride, but a chance to connect with fellow riders while supporting an important cause. After the ride, enjoy a BBQ and participate in a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit mental wellness initiatives for men.
Supporting Legacy Place Society
All funds raised will directly support Legacy Place Society, an organization dedicated to helping first responders and military personnel facing mental health challenges. They provide critical resources such as peer support, workshops, and counseling. Your participation helps create a supportive environment where these heroes can seek help and rebuild their resilience.
Why This Event Matters
Mental health is a silent struggle for many in demanding professions like the military and first responders. These individuals often face traumatic situations but are expected to stay strong. Events like this help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage men to seek help. Doug’s Ride for Freedom is a step towards breaking that silence and offering support.

First responders and military personnel are often seen as tough, always ready to face danger. However, beneath the uniform lies a human being with personal stories, challenges, and emotions. While they demonstrate immense courage, they too need support after experiencing crises. This support is crucial for maintaining their health, morale, job satisfaction, and long-term job performance.
Research shows that reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, raising awareness, building resilience, and developing coping strategies are key to preparing first responders and military personnel for the difficult situations they face.
Legacy Place Society goes beyond providing a safe space for individuals in crisis. The organization plays an active role in promoting mental health awareness, organizing conferences, providing peer support, and offering family resiliency workshops to help those in need.
The First Responders Day in Edmonton offers a powerful opportunity to come together, learn about the challenges faced by our brave men and women in uniform, and show appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices. Join us for this important event on June 8, 2017, at Downtown Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton.
Elevate Edmonton is back for the second annual First Responders Day to raise awareness and celebrate those who serve. This event, made possible by a collective effort of businesses, volunteers, and the citizens of Edmonton, will include exciting demonstrations like the jaws of life, ziplining into Churchill Square, canine unit displays, a mobile hospital, and more. Additionally, there will be a chili cook-off competition that raised over $2K last year.
