Legacy Place Acres
Where First Responder and Military Families connect and are revitalized through the power of nature.
Legacy Place Society is a non-profit and registered charity (#891549420RR0001) based in Calgary, AB. Our mission is to provide empathetic support that fosters resiliency within individuals and families of the First Responder, Veteran, and Military communities.
Through confidential transitional housing, a confidential crisis phone line, and education partnerships that support the mental wellness of our individuals and families. By addressing the unique challenges faced by these communities, Legacy Place Society creates pathways for connection, renewal, and growth, ensuring those who protect and serve have the tools they need to thrive.
We are excited to announce Legacy Place Acres, an innovative location designed to holistically support the health and well-being of first responders, military personnel, veterans, and their families. Situated on a serene property between Calgary and Airdrie, Legacy Place Acres will be a sanctuary for connection, healing, and resilience. This project builds on the success of our 2019-2021 pilot project, which demonstrated the profound impact of a rural setting on fostering wellness and community.
Legacy Place Acres will feature nature trails, a memorial garden, family activity areas, spaces for workshops, therapeutic programming, art, and much more. These year-round amenities are thoughtfully designed to address the unique challenges faced by those who serve, providing a restorative environment for individuals and families to reconnect and grow. Research highlights the profound benefits of outdoor activities in nature for psychological wellness and rehabilitation, benefiting the entire family unit. However, securing a suitable property faces obstacles such as zoning regulations and the need for privacy and security.
The projected cost for this project is approximately $3.5 million, of which Legacy Place Society has already secured $1.3 million through private donations and other sources. To bridge the funding gap, we are launching the Growing Together Campaign to raise an additional $2.2 million in private donations to make Legacy Place Acres a reality.
Our Why
At its core, Legacy Place Acres is about taking care of those who take care of us. By providing a tranquil, rural environment packed with resources and opportunities for healing, we ensure that first responders, veterans, military personnel, and their families get the support they need and deserve. When they can rest, recharge, and reconnect, they return to their roles stronger and more focused, benefitting their loved ones, peers, and the entire community.
