RCMP, Military and First Responders – Disability/Medical Tax Credit

Our company specializes in qualifying clients for the disability tax credit.  Our services include:  a free consultation to determine eligibility, sending an assessment report to the individual’s doctor explaining why they qualify for the tax credit, providing supporting documentation/medical history, paying for all medical fees for filling out forms and adjusting multiple tax years to personal income tax returns to recapture refunds owed.  JMC have successfully worked with active and non-active RCMP members to recapture this tax credit due to the nature of their injury or chronic medical condition(s).

The tax credit really should be called a “medical” tax credit as “disability” often has a negative connotation and implies severity.  Since 2005 Revenue Canada (CRA) has relaxed the requirements for the qualifying criteria.  This is where we specialize.  Most people, accountants and doctors included, are unaware of the qualifying criteria.

Most common diagnosis that we have dealt with for the RCMP officers are:  Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), hearing loss/tinnitus (due to discharge of firearms and prolonged exposure to siren noise), arthritis, chronic paing and muscle/skeletal injuries.

Other qualifying diagnosis include but not limited to are:  ALS, Amputees, Angina, Alzheimer’s Disease, Arthritis, Depression/anxiety, Chronic pain, Chronic Fatigue, Dementia, Degenerative Disc Disease, Cancer, COPD, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Knee/Hip replacements, IBS, Macular Degeneration, MS, Parkinson’s Disease, PTSD, Sleep Apnea, Strokes and Spinal Cord Injuries.

The maximum number of years that we can recapture this tax credit is ten.  Provided that an individual has taxable income either in the form of a T4 or RCMP pension, the average an individual can currently receive back from this Federal Tax Credit is approximately $16,000.  This amount is tax free as the individual has already paid income tax on this amount and total refund may vary from Province to Province.

Once an individual qualifies for the tax credit, not only will they see the above mentioned lump-sum refund but every year when they file their income tax return, they will see an additional $1850.00 over and above their normal refund amount every year.

It is important to note that age and/or the ability to work are not disqualifying factors for this tax credit.  We have helped individuals as young as 12 (credit transferred to a parent) and as mature as 98.  This is a tax credit. This is your own money coming back in the form of a refund.  You are not taking advantage of any government grant or other tax payer’s money.  This refund is to help offset the costs of: medication, treatment, assistive devices and/or therapies.

*** Injury or medical condition(s) do not have to be work related***

My personal back ground is in accounting and taxation.  I owned an H&R Block franchise for a number of years, have done accounting for sole proprietorships, corporations and assisted in forensic audits on a corporate level.  I am also a Rehabilitation Consultant contracted by insurance companies such as ICBC, Worksafe BC, Manulife, Great West Life and MPI to help sick or injured individuals to return back to work or assist them with adjustment to disability.  The experience in both these fields complements each other in ensuring a high success in claim acceptance.

Having family members and friends in the military and RCMP, we are offering discounted fees to say thank you for the work that you have done to serve and protect our families.  Our civilian fees are 30% of what we can get back for the individual.  Our fees for RCMP and Military are 20%, potentially giving back $2000.00 extra to the member.  We also pay for referral fees to say thank you for recommending our service to others.

There is no upfront cost or risk to this service.  If we are unable to get any money back for you, there is no charge!  We only get paid when you get money back from Revenue Canada.

Though I am based in Kimberley, BC, I am oftern travelling to different communities and Provinces.  Much of my service is done over the phone and email but I do enjoy meeting clients face to face.  As mentioned, there is no upfront cost, pressure or risk.  Please feel free to contact me directly on my personal cell phone 250-427-6016 or through email at andersj@shaw.ca as I would be happy to answer any of your questions.
