Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a stranger, or giving to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. The idea caught on, and has grown around the world, inspiring hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Operating the confidential crisis phone line, supporting those who are with us in our emergency accommodations (Legacy Place Houses) and providing psychological wellness support to their families.

Registration is open… https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/every-brilliant-thing-presented-by-legacy-place-society-tickets-698550532447 Mental illnesses are difficult, and the author of the play “Every Brilliant Thing” and the comedian who performs it do an amazing job of showing the range of emotions and consequences of mental illnesses. But more importantly, they show that hope and joy are still possible.
If we look to theatre to increase our awareness of the human condition, the evening succeeds on all counts. This talk, which deserves wide dissemination, is better than good: it is necessary.
Legacy Place Society – a not for profit registered charity supporting the individuals and families of First Responders, Veterans and Military Personnel is presenting on September 16th, this heart warming live theater play as one of many initiatives with World Wide Suicide Awareness Day.
The colour yellow, roller coasters, ice cream — as a mother battles chronic depression, a child creates a list of every brilliant thing they can think of, to remind them what makes life worth living. As the child grows, so does the list. With great sensitivity behind the abundant laughs, is a child’s fierce, flawed attempt to make sense of adult unhappiness and a meditation on the shadow that a loved one’s depression casts over the lives of a family.
CONTENT / TRIGGER WARNINGS: Every Brilliant Thing contains descriptions of depression, self-harm, and suicide. The show briefly describes a character’s attempted suicides and her death by suicide and includes the specific means that were used.
The targeted audience is 14 years of age and older (must be accompanied by an adult).
Doors open at 1pm and the presentation is about an hour/15minutes. Ice Cream will be served after the performance.
There is no cost to attend, however, donations will be accepted at the door to help off set the production and performance costs.

The Stair Climb is a physically demanding activity. The goal is to complete the ascent (and descent) of 110 stories. This distance is equivalent to the height of the World Trade Centre as it stood before the attacks of 9/11. It is believed that many rescuers would have made a similar climb that day but unfortunately many never returned home.
We make this climb to honour those we lost in the line of duty and to ensure that we never forget them.
Participants are encouraged to ask for sponsors in the form of pledges in order to raise money for the Legacy Place Society and A New Dawn Foundation. Click on the following link to the pledge form & print out as many as needed!

A New Dawn Foundation provides support for families of Fire Fighters, Paramedics, Police Officers, Public Safety Communications Centre (PSCC), Nurses, Corrections Officers and Military Personnel of Lethbridge & Southern Alberta. How participants choose to approach this task is up to each individual with personal level of fitness taken into account. All participants that register before September 1, 2023 will receive a free t-shirt. If unable to select your size on this site, email support@lethbridgefirefighters.com
A few suggestions:
1. Ensure you do a warm up routine prior to the climb.
2. Arrive well hydrated and rested. There will be water and light snacks supplied but if you have a different preference of refreshment or energy snack please bring your own.
3. Although each participant has to complete the climb on their own, we like to promote working as a team, to encourage and support one another.
4. Stay single file and to the right side of the stairwell to allow faster climbers or runners to safely pass.
5. Follow the designated route – 1 stairwell is up, 1 is down. Heats will be created as registrations are received & will be in 30 minute increments. Heat designations will be emailed to each participant & will also be available at package pick up. Should participants have a heat preference, requests can be sent to: support@lethbridgefirefighters.com. We will do our best to accommodate requests but appreciate your understanding of limited space & safety concerns.
6. Take breaks as required ensuring they are off the stairs or route, always remembering to HYDRATE!
7. Wear appropriate foot wear. Good running shoes are highly recommended.
8. It takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to perform the climb. Although timing chips are utilized to count laps & provide participants with an accurate time – it is NOT a race!
9. ALL participants MUST sign waiver prior to starting the stair climb. Anyone who does not provide a signed waiver will NOT be permitted to participate. Waivers will be provided at package pick up.
10. Unfortunately we are unable to provide or allow participants to climb in turn out or tactical gear due to various safety hazards. There will be a limited number of SCBA’s available on a first come, first served basis
11. Package pick up will be at Lethbridge Supplements and Vitamins (1406 3 Ave S, #2) on Friday, September 22nd from 12:00-6:00 pm. Participants unable to attend package pick up will have to check in & sign the waiver at Melcor Center prior to starting the Stair Climb.

The wildfires in BC, Alberta and Northwest Territories are presenting numerous challenges as families scramble to relocated and loved ones are left to battle the fires and provide essential safety, medical and protection to the communities. We are aware of a variety of hardships and unfortunate loss of personal belongings. Legacy Place Society is a registered charity providing numerous means of support to the individuals and families of First Responder, Veteran and Military Personnel. We also have a dedicated Board of Directors that Govern the charity. As in any crisis to the magnitude as these fires, there are numerous logistics and questions of how to help. Legacy Place utilizes Canada Helps as it’s donor platform. If you would like to donate, go to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/legacy-place-society/ You can designate your region of choice for your donation in the memo area. Legacy Place will contact the region/community and provide an overall chq to support their needs. We will also in time communicate a list of communities that the monies were designated to be supported. Note that Canada Helps retains a 4% administration fee. Legacy Place will not hold back any fees as we already carry a donor platform contract with Canada Helps. The Edmonton First Responders Rodeo Association was founded in 2017 by a group of Fire, EMS and Police personnel, along with some trusted advisors all with a common interest in bringing a friendly rodeo competition to the Edmonton area where Police, Fire and EMS employees can compete in a fun, family oriented, western competition. The Inaugural Edmonton First Responders Rodeo took place July 14th, 2018.

In the summer of 1989 a small group of Harley-riding combat vets of the Viet Nam War, who were also police officers, banded together to form the Nam Knights. The Club was founded in New Jersey by Jack Quigley, now retired Undersheriff of The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department. Jack served as a platoon sergeant with the 11th Motor Transport Battalion, First Marine Division.
Today, the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club has grown to 78 chapters in 18 states, Washington D.C. and one Canadian province (ALBERTA), with hundreds of members made up of veteran’s of all eras as well as law enforcement personnel plus a few special and dedicated “patriots.” As Jack has said: “The club was formed to recapture the brotherhood its founding members shared while serving in Southeast Asia, and to help other veterans of all wars who are unable to physically or financially help themselves.”
